Out of the Void, Into the Noise
As I sit on the beach of Lake Michigan, I ponder the right way to end this whole journey. Shoving my feet deep into the sandy shores that I’ve been devoid of. I have to admit that I don’t want to write this blog. I have to admit that through all the struggles and hardships Continue reading

Closing the Book
When you flip through the last pages of a book, finishing the literature that has preoccupied your time, what resonates with you? What do you take away from the reading? Is it a life lesson? Is it a long list of quotes that present themselve as a code of ethics? Is it intelligence? Is it Continue reading

What’s In A Support System?
I often wonder how my life might have turned out had I been an orphan, a kid raised by a single mother or a single father. What might have become of me, or my sister for that matter, had our father walked out on us at the ages of two and five? Or worse yet, Continue reading

The Humor in my Hypocrisy!
Hypocrite: (Adjective) A person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. As I attempt to narrate a story from the events of Friday, June 30th, I feel as though it’s important to note that my narration is a bit of a riff from my last blog: “Be Excellent to Everyone!”. Continue reading

“Be Excellent to Everyone!”
Who would’ve thought that hikers have beach days on the Appalachian Trail? I can tell you I certainly wasn’t expecting to unravel my rain poncho, sprawling it onto a pitch of sand. For all intended purposes of my massive red Mackintosh, I can’t say I’ve ever seen one used as a beach towel before. However, Continue reading

What Are You Afraid Of?
I used to believe that cramming my emotions into the bottleneck of a contained jar was the appropriate way to weave through this world. To stockpile my darkest thoughts and beliefs onto the shelf that was hidden away, covered in dust and cobwebs. To take what was unnatural and unconventional and conceal those things with Continue reading

Your Radiant Beams
As the darkness of the night settles over the land, a time for rest begins. Our eyes close as we work to regenerate our strength for the next day. This isn’t solely for hikers. A time for rest and recovery is necessary for almost every living organism on this planet. The moon makes its way Continue reading

The Heroes Without A Cape
I have fond memories of my childhood and fantasizing about heroes. The Superman’s and the Batman’s of the world, those crusaders that most young boys envision themselves becoming someday. To fly around the globe with a mask and a cape, launching brilliant attacks to foil the bad guys plans. Power Rangers were one of my Continue reading

Falling In Love…(With the Experience)
Bare with me as I sprinkle a bit of vulgarity into this story. I was having a conversation with my sister and brother in law about three weeks before our departure for Amicalola Falls. “What’s something you really want to do before you start hiking?” she had asked me. With Scott sitting right there, I Continue reading

A Man’s Best Friend!
“When you take the word DOG and flip the letters around what do you get?” I’ve heard this phrase quite often in awe inspired conversations about the pets that we call “man’s best friend”. I’ve always wrestled with religion and the belief of a higher power, questioning the notion of such things in everyday life. Continue reading
About Me
My name is Jacob Rohlman and I entered the blogging world to help record my exploits from the Appalachian Trail. Also, to express a little more freedom with journaling and daily thoughts that might cross my mind. I am an alumni from Muskegon Community College where I graduated with my associates and I also received my diploma from Mona Shores High School. My passion has almost always been soccer, however, the older that I become the more important I realize it is to have multiple drives in life. I’ve had 5 jobs starting from the time I turned 17 and none of them landed me in a position I could see myself staying in for the long haul. I hope you enjoy my site and the posts that come with it. Welcome to “eating elephants”!
